  • Exfoliating Body Scrub: Choose extra-fine or fine grain Himalayan bath salt and mix with natural oils to create a natural salt scrub. Popular oils are almond oil, grapeseed oil, sesame oil, and avocado oil. You can also add in a few drops of your favorite essential oils or scent.

Please note: Due to the slow dissolve rate and unique composition of minerals, Himalayan salts may take a little longer than usual to dissolve in water.

The Himalaya is a great natural wonder, with breathtaking beauty: visitors often describe the mountains and surrounding area as mysterious and even magical. It is the largest mountain range in the world, reaching 26,000 feet at its peak. The range is 1700 miles across and is located between Assam and Kashmir, stretching across India, Pakistan, China, Nepal, and Bhutan.

Himalayan salt comes from the many intertwining bodies of water located deep within the Himalayan Mountains. It has been known for its natural purity since ancient times, and has always been a staple in the area's economy. Historically, and up into the present day, the salt has served as a valuable source of income and treasured commodity in remote villages and towns. For centuries, people in the region have travelled once a year to Nepal to trade their precious salt in exchange for food and other items.

Himalayan Salt has been known as "King Salt" - because in past times, it was served to royalty; ordinary folks were served other, less expensive sea salt or table salt.

In addition to being used as a healthy alternative to regular table salt in cooking, Himalayan salt was used in the preservation of meat, often keeping meat fresh year round.

The salt was valuable not only for its taste and preservation properties - it became quite popular as a therapeutic ingredient in "brine baths". Himalayan salt was mixed with purified and natural spring water to create "sole" (so-lay), also known as brine water, to supposedly speed healing in patients with wounds, muscle injury, and other conditions.

Physical Attributes

Himalayan salt is quite beautiful - you may have seen it glowing radiantly as a table lamp. It is often reddish or pinkish in color, and can also be transparent or off-white. It is known as "crystal salt", due to its unique formation; when under a microscope, each crystal is beautiful and unique, forming gorgeous geometric patterns. Crystal salt forms over million of years, and under the influence of extreme tectonic pressure, far from pollution and toxins.

It contains many elements that naturally occur in our bodies, and are easily absorbed and utilized by our cells when used as an ingredient in food or when added to warm water in the form of a bath. Himalayan salt is naturally rich in nutrients and elements, and each perfectly formed crystal contains crucial minerals including calcium, magnesium, potassium, copper and iron. We can reap the benefits of all these elements by soaking in water mixed with the salt or by adding it to our food.

Calcium is crucial for the formation of strong bones and teeth, and the benefits are particularly marked in women and children. As we get older, our bones become brittle, as do our nails and our hair. Calcium helps us build bone strength and mass, warding off common conditions such as osteoporosis, the weakening of the skeletal system. Bones and ligaments become stronger and less prone to fractures and sprains that often occur when our calcium levels decrease.

Magnesium is essential to the healthy functioning of all living cells and is the 11th most abundant element in the human body. Magnesium has been used in anesthetics, sports medicine for relief of tired muscles and antacids for the soothing of the stomach.

Potassium is crucial to heart function and has been used to treat hypertension and heart conditions. During physical activity, our body utilizes and then loses large amounts of potassium, which must be replenished to avoid soreness and tightness in the muscles. Potassium is found in foods such as bananas, broccoli, and many other fruits and vegetables. It is a powerful diuretic as well.

Copper and iron both aide in the formation of red blood cells, and support the nervous system, improve immune system response, and promote healthy bone structure and blood vessel function.

The Many Benefits of Himalayan Bath Salts

Salt harvested from the Himalayan Mountains is unlike any other salt, unique in both its majestic beauty and in the benefits it provides. If you add raw, untreated Himalayan salts to your bath you will notice the quality difference immediately. When mixed with water, these salts create an environment that mimics the most ancient seas on earth, bringing the magic of the Himalayas right into your own home. When you soak in a salt or "brine" bath, as it is also called, the minerals and nutrients inherent in the salt are delivered to your cells in the form of "ions", making it easier for your body to absorb them and utilize them.

When you begin to run the bath water, add one cup of Himalayan bath salt. The salt crystal will dissolve by the time the bath is ready. Soak for 20-30 minutes. Refrain from towel drying. It is suggested that you take a 15-20 minute rest after the bath.

Himalayan bath salts can improve the texture, tone and appearance of your skin, combat water retention, promote sinus health, prevent muscle cramping and soreness, regulate sleep, decrease stress and even support your libido.

Softer, Smoother Skin

You probably have experienced at least one of the following: dry, flaky skin, oily skin, or "combination" skin - all prone to conditions such as acne or dandruff. As you get older, you might notice a loss of elasticity or "tightness" of your skin, resulting in fine lines and wrinkles.

Bathing in natural Himalayan salt is a low-cost skin care alternative that is not only pleasant, it's also quite effective. The salt is readily absorbed into your skin, cleaning and purifying your pores from the inside out, leaving you with a healthy, youthful glow. Bathing in Himalayan salt also plumps up the skin, filling out fine lines and wrinkles. The powerful detoxification properties of natural Himalayan salt breaks down harmful deposits and toxins that lead to a dull, lifeless complexion and uneven coloration. After bathing in Himalayan salt water, you will emerge with skin that is soft, smooth, and supple to the touch.

A Cure for PMS?

It's That Time of the Month - your jeans feel tight, your skin is dull and breaking out, you experience painful cramping and frankly, you feel like a monster outside and in. Take a bath!

Bathing can alleviate the symptoms of PMS without breaking the bank, and is a wonderful way to uplift your mood. Bathing in natural Himalayan salts rich in potassium and iron effectively combats water retention and bloating by allowing your cells to metabolize and utilize water more effectively. Soaking in warm water gently soothes cramping, aches and pains. Bathing also greatly uplifts the mood - you'll feel your blood pressure lower along with your stress level, you will feel relaxed, content, and refreshed.

And, best of all, after a nice long bath you just might forget what time of the month it actually is.

A Good Night's Sleep

Bathing is one of the most soothing, relaxing things you can do with your time. If you go to bed feeling restless and spend the night tossing and turning, taking a bath before bedtime is the best thing you can do. Bathing in warm water mixed with Himalayan salt greatly lowers your blood pressure and relaxes your mind and your body, so you can have a long, restful night of uninterrupted sleep.

Feel Happier.... and Sexier?

That's right - bathing can uplift your mood and increase your libido. Bathing greatly decreases stress, both mental and physical. It decreases your blood pressure, relaxing you from the inside out. As you lie back and soak, you'll feel the worries and stress of the day melt away as the warmth of the water and minerals in your bath salts work to massage away any tension you carry.

You will notice your blood pressure drop and you will be completely relaxed, but how does this relate to libido? Well, high stress is the number one culprit when it comes to not feeling sexy at the end of a hard workday. In addition, bathing increases your circulation, allowing blood to move freely throughout your body, awakening all your senses at once. Bathing can be an incredibly sensual experience, either alone or with a partner. Light those candles and prepare to leave your worries far behind!

Bring the Magic and Wonder of the Himalayas Home!

Smoother, more youthful skin, less stress, a better night's sleep, an abundance of energy - all this and more can be experienced by simply taking a bath using Himalayan bath salts. The majesty of the Himalayan Mountains, and the far-reaching benefits that people have enjoyed for thousands of years can be yours, in your very own home.

Once you have your salts, tell everyone you're busy. Close the door, dim the lights. Set out a few candles, fill the tub with warm water and a handful of salts. For a truly amazing experience, add your choice of essential oils to the water - for instance, lavender, vanilla, rose, or citrus scents and step into an oasis of calm and tranquility.

How to Use the Himalayan Bath Salt for Other Uses

When water and salt combine, the positive ions of the salt surround the negative ions of the water molecules and the negative ions of the salt surround the positive ions of the water molecules. The ions become hydrolyzed and the geometrical structure of the salt and the water is changed to form a completely new structure.

In this process called hydration, the biophotons (photons emitted spontaneously by all living systems) stored in the crystal salt are set free in the brine, which occurs without any additional energy. This is pure hydration. You can make your own brine right in your own home.

You can start to use crystal salt for these purposes by putting enough in water until the solution becomes saturated. This solution is called brine and is also referred to as "sole" (so-lay).

To use the Himalayan bath salt you can follow these steps:

  1. Loosely fill a closable glass container (Mason jar) with several crystal salt stones or bath salts. Add natural spring water or purified water, completely filling the container
  2. After approximately 24 hours, look to see if the salt crystals have completely dissolved. If so, add a few more crystals. When the water can no longer dissolve any more salt, the salt crystals will sit at the bottom of the jar without dissolving. At this point the solution will have become saturated at 26%, and is ready for use.
  3. The glass can be refilled again and again with water and salt, continuing this process. This brine solution may be stored for years in a closed glass container without changing or decomposing.
There are many ways to directly experience the natural benefits of brine including bathing in the brine solution.

While you will certainly find many other beneficial uses for sole (brine) made from Himalayan crystal salt, here are some common uses:

  1. Try a brine face wash, or the Himalayan crystal salt mixed with fragrance free, natural soap as a face or body scrub.
  2. Soothe your feet with a brine foot soak.
  3. Rub brine directly on your skin and let dry.
  4. Throat: Gargle with warm brine solution, but don't swallow.
