Jasper - April Featured Gemstone

The name jasper is derived from a Greek word meaning "spotted stone". Jasper comes in many colors, mostly striped, spotted or flamed. Jaspers can include up to 20% foreign materials, which account for its wide variety of colors and patterns. It occurs as nodules or as fillings in fissures. Picture jasper, for example, is a petrified or silicated mud that dripped into gas pockets in molten lava.
